With the exception of the netware questions, your answers are 'Yes, to all of the above'. With regards to netware, Lwd is correct, take a look around novell (especially since they are pushing SuSe now). NTFS support is not the worlds most friendly yet, however, read is fine. You will however be using neither FAT nor NTFS, as linux uses it's own native filesystem type(s). There are many. Off the top of my head there is: ext2, ext3, reiser3, reiser4, jfs, xfs. (Don't associate the name similarity of the two reisers... they are as diffrent as night and day really.)

File name length depends on the file system.
