changing background in linux console
i use red hat 9. how can i change the background of the console to a image ?

if by console you actually mean terminal then you open up the terminal select edit->current profile - click on the effects tab and it will enable you to set an image for the background

There are many different terminals, that will work with gnome-terminal.
