how to speed up my system????
hi everyone,
i use redhat 9.
my system has become slow theese days.
i do a lot of browsing and downloads.
what are the basic maintenance activities i have to follow to speed up my system.

First thing I would suggest is to check what is running on the machine and hogging the resources...

Open a terminal and type "top" you'll get a list of everything that's currently running and the resources that are being used.

You could also check to make sure dma is turned on your drives.

do a hdparm /dev/hd* (where * is your drives letter)

dma should be turned on. If it isn't that will significantly effect hard drive performance and overall the system.
