new monitor question
I've just ordered a new monitor,,a ViewSonic VX924 lcd. I am very new at linux and am using suse 9.1. what kind of problems may i run into having it be recognized?

hmm the main one you'll have is the change in resolution no doubt, that only requires a simple edit to xorg.conf

changing
say

"1280x1024 1024x800"

to

"1600x1200 1280x1024"

*note: not in front of laptop currently so the exact syntax might not be correct for the x but its close enough, this is in the Monitor section (should be) *grumbles about dead nic on laptop and a dying power connector port that dell is having to get the laptop for to repair *sigh*

You might also have to update the horizontal and vertical refresh rates on it if they have increased, expecially if this monitor is larger than your last. You won't be able to get the higher resolution if these values are not right.

Thanks for the quick reply,,

Lol this is a major change from my old monitor,, i lost my good monitor a few months ago,and am using a very old 12" crt,,, so the new monitor is going to even stress my personal self,,,much less Suse!!! .

the new monitor is a 19" flatscreen..
