Solved: Linux ISO's
I am trying to burn the ISO's for Fedora Core 3 to CD. I have used Nero to burn the ISO as an image disc. Once I check the disc it states that it fails and the disc may be dirty or the download is corrupted. I have downloaded these from the Redhat site. I have redownloaded them and they are still coming up corrupt. What settings under Nero should I check/change when burning the disc to image under the ISO menu in Nero Burning Rom?

Did you check the md5sums before burning the iso?

Here it is for windows - I couldn't find the Linux version
http://www.etree.org/md5com.html
There should have been an md5 number with the distro you DL'ed - run the generator on the iso and compare the number it makes with the one you DL'ed - if the match you got a good DL - if not then you don't.

Maybe this will help.
The m5dsum command is a standard Linux command:

Here's a list of md5 checkers for windows:

You may also try to burn Fedora Core 3 to CD with MagicISO built-in ISO burner.

I had a problem with fedora core 3 as well while burning with Nero. Using Nero 5.5 I burned all four discs, downloaded from the website, to my hard drive. While scanning the first disc during installation, it said the disc was corrupt or some such...thats when I moved on to other distros.

I am in favour now of single disc (CD) distros as upposed to multi cd or DVD distros. I have found from installing a few, that its much easier to get a single disc install cd and then user the distros download manager to download and install the extra programs YOU want, which saves on download time, space and lessens the chance of finding errors when burning the discs - because a single cd isnt as bad as losing a dvd or multiple cds.

bigavvystyle, I think you'll see more 1 disc releases now with the spread of broadband .
I try to install as little fluff as possible: I'd rather choose my own.
As far as getting iso files to burn, this is a good free burning utility:

I'm using Nero 5.5.10.28 - been using it for years to burn ISO's- three mouse clicks, that's all and I've never burned a coaster yet. I don't know what you guys are doing but how much more simple could it get?

I use UltraISO myself for burning ISO files. Very easy to do.
- Nero does the job no problems as well.

Some of the new distro's are having a problem ...actually if you are burning using a buffer ....this can cause a problem...I probably burn 20 iso's a week and one of the easiest ways to do it in Windows is with a free program called..

burncdcc...Since it doesn't use a buffer I haven't had any problems...

http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/utilities.html

Most of the time cdburner xp pro will burn correctly but it still uses a buffer..It seems to work better than Nero and it is free

It can make a big difference if you just burn at a slower speed. 4x works well.
