Sound is a big reason I hardly ever use Linux. I have it on a dual-boot system because I love the power it gives you, but there's still a few kinks to be worked out. Have you tried asking this over at linuxquestions.org?

well for the download problem where is it trying to download the files to. it should be something like /home/$user/downloads..somewhere you have permissions as the user to write to. I believe there should be in the menu a setup for sound somewhere (i've never really used gnome/kde so i sorta just point and shoot :P

You should have sndconfig already installed if you're running FC3. Open a terminal as root and type /usr/sbin/sndconfig. The AC97 driver should be there also.
AC97 is a well supported chipset.

I'm running with onboard realtek 97 and FC3 found it with no prompting....

What do you get if you try the following???

From the drop down menu
Applications then System tools then Hardware Browser then Sound Card

also from the drop down menu
Applications then System Settings then Sound Card Detection

I didnt mean the ac97 driver would be in /usr/sbin/ if that's what you meant. i just meant it's a well-supported chip that is a standard driver in Red Hat / Fedora.

Oh...well I updated the kernel, and the sound stopped repeating itself and what not...Only problem I have now is playing music CD's. Any plugin or other software I'll need to do this? And what should and shouldn't be muted and/or locked in the volume settings?
