SuSE Linux and my soundcard...can it be done?
I'm running SuSE linux personal 9.1 and I can't get my soundcard to work...at all. The driver is there, but when I play anything with xmms, it is silent. It acts like it's playing, but it doesn't play anything. I've rebooted since I installed it. SuSE told me when I booted right after installing it that it noticed and wanted to configure it. I did. It doesn't work. Please help. (NOTE: I am pretty new to linux) Thanks!

just out of curiosity, have you checked to see if your channels are muted?

you should be able to open the sound properties and look and see if they are muted.

Go to KDE Control Center> Sound and Multimedia> Sound System and see if "Enable System Sound " is checked.
Also try Menu> Multimedia> Volume Control> Soundmixer (kmix)
HTH

Ugh...where is the mixer control? I don't see an icon....and xmms doesn't have a mixer option (or I missed it when I was looking around). Is there a command-line command I can use to get at the mixer?

Sorry...really new newbie....thanks for your patience.

Alright, I tried to open this but it told me that I haven't configured a sound device yet...but I did. How would I configure it? I don't see any settings inside the control center. Thanks for your help!
