Can't Print From Remote Computer
I have a computer called 'Mepis1' running Linux, mepis ver 2004.3, to which I've attached a printer, a HP 1315 all-in-one. This computer is running Samba, at least partially, I think. The printer works OK on Mepis1.

I have another computer, called Acer, running Windows 98 SE, networked to it. I can see the shared directories on Mepis1 on Acer, including the CD-ROM.

When I try to print from Acer, I run into trouble. The message:

There was an error writing to \\Mepis1\hp for printer (hp psc 1300 series)

The printer will be set to work offline.

appears.

When I right click on the printer icon in Start>Settings>Printers on Acer the entry 'Use Printer Offline' is checked and attempts to uncheck it lead to the message:

Cannot connect to this network printer. Make sure your network is working properly and the network share you are connected to exists.

Now the entry under Mepis1 in the Network Neighborhood on Acer shows the printer as lp, not hp. I have a feeling there is something I must do to one of the configuration files on Mepis1, but I am at a loss as to what.

I'm trying adjustments in my printcap file on Mepis1, but I can't find the proper device.
