I had forgotten about solaris going open source, I was referring to the I guess you call 'real' solaris that Sun makes and uses on it's systems. There for a while you could download it and/or get a CD with it for a small fee....not the $2k for the hardware and $10k for the OS Sun Sparc system.
I guess my orignal question wasn't understood well, or I didn't understand the answer.

You're going to have trouble running a computer if you're against everything BSD for whatever reason, as BSD, Linux, and Windows all use BSD software.
No problem with BSD, just the little fat guy in the red suit they used as their symbol.

On the subject of words, daemon IS a devil, in one of it's definitions:

Who cares about a mascot? FreeBSD, at least, will change Beastie.

The fish is probably Darwin, which I take issue with the entire theory there of so I may have problems choking that down.
I have to congratulate you.

You have the most novel reason for not liking an OS that I have ever encountered.

Linux/Unix/BSD/Solaris are all full of "Daemons", so I guess you had better stay away from all of them.

I will also bet - in fact, I will bet a BUNCH - that you have no idea what science is.

Well what OS is he using that doesn't have daemons? I'm not aware of any desktop OS that doesn't run them.
Its a freaking logo, it isn't even part of the OS

Windows doesn't have "daemons". It has "services".

A very, very different thing. You see.

Hand it over then. I have been to college, I was a comp sci major. At the time I was studying Pascal and C++.
I have taken, and aced, Advanced Placement Physics in HS.
In HS I was in special classes for mathematics, where I finished 4 consecutive courses in 2 years (I took 1/2 a school year to complete 1 course, the other students took 1 school year for each class.
I have taken advanced chemistry....
I did not like biology, so I didn't bother myself with the advanced classes that was offered, I stuck with the basics that was required for graduation and left it at that.

I know what a daemon is, I have written a few even. I have no problem with the name because comp-sci has redefined the word.
I do not like the fat little red guy with a pointed tail and pitchfork that xBSD used as their mascot. That, even if they call it a daemon, is a demon or devil.

As far as I am concerned, a more 'novel' reason for disliking something is for the look of it rather than personal beliefs and people hate things because of their looks all the time.

Right...still.....what does the logo on their website have anything to do with BSD? The "devil" (if you want to call it that, the people that created it already said its not a devil) isn't any part of the operating system. Its the same software that ran many parts of Windows.

No, it is a caricature. It has no more to do with devil worship than you do with little green men from Mars. It has been my experience that those looking for a demon behind every bush and beneath every stone will in most cases find a way to see one.

I can't but help to laugh at this. I know this is going to be a insult, and I apoligize in advance for it.

This is what I find wrong with our current society, we've got some people out there that are so far flung one way or the other, that when they make a point it litereally doesn't make any sense to anyone who is somewhere in the middle. or the polar oposite. This discussion about theFreeBSD Daemon just highlights it so much.

There's a new BSD distro out that doesn't use a demon logo (well none of them do, but some people seem to think they know more than the BSD developers that invented the logo.)
