screen support
I have a Xien lcd screen w/ tv tuner and av / svideo support (I believe Xien is an Australian brand) however the monitor will not function with my linux system (that is I get a blank screen once the system boots into Linux).. what kind of reason is there for this? As the monitor displays image up until the boot screen, however when I select Mandrake everything disappears.

I suspect your system is configured to boot into an X-Windows login, and your combination of monitor and video card is not supported/configured incorrectly in your linux distribution. Can you boot into a text screen? Try using cntl-alt-F1 (all keys held down at once) after you have booted to a blank screen to switch to a text mode console and see if your monitor responds.

Hope this helps.

Yeah it actually did boot into the text screen. When I was configuring Linux I just configured it to use a generic lcd monitor and I'm pretty sure my graphics card was support (Asus GeForce4 Ti4600). I'm guessing it would just be the monitor?

I suspect your monitor is fine, and the problems are all a matter of configuration. I take it that when you currently boot into Linux, the screen goes blank. When this happens, try using the cntl-alt-1 keystrokes (all keys held down simultaneously) which should switch you to a text mode console (probably with a login prompt). If this happens, your monitor is fine, and your X-Windows problems are a matter of configuration/support.

Hope this helps.
