Usually, LILO presents you with a menu of boot options (e.g., Linux, Windows 98, etc.) and you select which operating system you wish to boot. If you only have one operating system installed (presumably Linux (

), LILO should boot that operating system and present you with a login prompt. If you see a login prompt, LILO has done its job, and is finished.
Many Linux distributions ship with no password for the root login. If you see a login prompt, try typing "root" (without the quotes) for the username and then enter a carriage return (the "enter" key or possibly the "return" key) when prompted for a password.
You should not have to delete any partitions.
