I've installed Mandrake 9.2 on Microsoft Virtual PC.

Installation seemed to go fine, but now I'm at the localhost login screen, I put in the username and password I specified during setup, but it keeps telling me login incorrect.

What could I possibly be doing wrong?

You might try logging in as root. Many Linux distributions default to a NULL password for root (i.e., just a carriage return/enter key at the password prompt). If you can login as root, you can reset/establish other user accounts (including password information).
