Of course, there are exceptions, and NTFS is one of them. Write access to NTFS filesystems is still experimental under Linux (read: use at your own risk), although read access has been available for some time. In general, you will need to mount the filesystem you wish to access and then read from or write to that filesystem.
Hope this helps.

If this information is somewhere in a faq or readme I apologize for asking, but I have been unable to find it as of yet. | | Senior Member with 1,410 posts. | | | | Here's some info that may be helpful (check out the Rescuing a non-booting Linux system discussion): http://www-128.ibm.com/developerwork...y/l-knopx.html
I suspect you must be root in order to do this, or know the root password (quite possibly the login/password prompt you are getting, so try using the root password when prompted for a username/password pair).
Good luck -- and feel free to post again with results.
Hope this helps.

edit: on the faq page you linked me to it gave me the answer
The default user is knoppix. For operations that require root privileges, you need to su to root and assign a root password:
knoppix@ttyp0[knoppix]# su
root@ttyp0[knoppix]# passwd | | Senior Member with 1,410 posts. | | | | | | | Distinguished Member with 15,988 posts. | | Join Date: Jul 2002 Location: Ann Arbor, MI Experience: Advanced | | In Knoppix, you don't need to make a root password to add Write permissions on a drive.
If you right-click on the icon for a partition on the desktop, there is an option to Change Write Permissions in there somewhere. I believe its under Actions. | | Senior Member with 316 posts. | | Join Date: Jan 2003 Experience: Einstein | | yes and when you change those permissions it asks you for a user/pass | | Distinguished Member with 15,988 posts. | | Join Date: Jul 2002 Location: Ann Arbor, MI Experience: Advanced | | Didn't ask for a password when I did it on Knoppix 3.9 | THIS THREAD HAS EXPIRED.
