WinXP and Fedora Core 3 prob
So I installed a Dual boot of WinXP and Win2K Pro a while back on a machine I am using for school. It has always worked fine. Now I never use the 2K anymore. So I deleted it (that was probably my first prob as I believe my boot loader was there) I installed Fedora Core3 on it and now when it goes to the windows loader I get this

Booting 'Windows'

rootnoverify (hd1,3)
makeactive

Error 12: Invalid Device requested

Press any key to continue...

I just ran the Recovery console on XP and discovered that the F: is my XP drive and it is the 4th partition on my 2nd drive of the second IDE cable (I think I just figured some of it out. Where would the hd1,3 point ? to the 2nd drive 4th partition or is it trying to find the 2nd IDE slot and the partition that cannot exist on an IDE cable?)

Any help would be great.

Oh if I didn't say it windows will not load but all the info seems to still be there.

Mabey it's pointing to the old 2k location at hd1,3?

Anyway put your boot disk in and go into the recovery console and try FIXBOOT. If that doesn't work theres a command to manually rebuild the boot file. Type help and it's some where on the list

Nope, the old 2k would have been at hd0,0

I will try that BW Thanks...

I have tried the fixboot and repointed it to the F:\ but I do not know if I put the backslash in or if it matters. I will try the fixboot option.

As well I just did the:

XP REPAIR INSTALL

1. Boot the computer using the XP CD. You may need to change the
boot order in the system BIOS. Check your system documentation
for steps to access the BIOS and change the boot order.

2. When you see the "Welcome To Setup" screen, you will see the
options below This portion of the Setup program prepares Microsoft
Windows XP to run on your computer:

To setup Windows XP now, press ENTER.

To repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R.

To quit Setup without installing Windows XP, press F3.

3. Press Enter to start the Windows Setup.
do not choose "To repair a Windows XP installation using the
Recovery Console, press R", (you do not want to load Recovery
Console). I repeat, do not choose "To repair a Windows XP
installation using the Recovery Console, press R".
4. Accept the License Agreement and Windows will search for existing
Windows installations.
5. Select the XP installation you want to repair from the list and
press R to start the repair. If Repair is not one of the options,
read Warning #2 below!!
6. Setup will copy the necessary files to the hard drive and reboot.
Do not press any key to boot from CD when the message appears.
Setup will continue as if it were doing a clean install, but your
applications and settings will remain intact.

Thing I found at http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/repair.txt

THis did not help either. I guess I am just not pointing to the right place...
