Ok, now I have my Simply Mepis up and running. I want to use things like my email, Yahoo and the like while in linux. Is there anything I need to do or any add on programs I need to install to use say Outlook Express and yahoo?

Outlook Express is a Windows Program.
Yahoo is web based email. Open up a browser and surf away.

You have Evolution Mail (OutLook), Kopete and Gaim (Messenger) and I believe two browsers - Firefox and Konqueror. Plus a ton of other stuff...

I have been trying to get Yahoo messenger installed. It fails. I downloaded the file designed for debian. Dont know if this is the one I should use though. I want to run Yahoo because I have many friends and that is the Instant messenger they use.

Couchmaster, I tried to locate evolution mail in Mepis. I dont find it anywhere. I do find Kmail though. But I am having a difficult time getting it configured to connect to my mail server. any tips or how to's?

SimplyMEPIS comes with Gaim installed. The Yahoo Messenger Debian Client should work though. If not try using Gaim.

Open Office is great. I've imported excel and word documents from Windows to it and it see them fine.

You should play around with the Gimp

I have not been able to get my printer to install. I have a Canon MF3110 Laser/scanner/copier. I have not been able to find a driver that will work. Mepis has a lot of Canon drivers but none for the lasers that I can find. I have an email out to Canon for their suggestions. I really do not want to buy a printer special for Mepis. The one I have is a dynamite unit.

I am reinstalling everything on my desktop.including windows and mepis. I want to install mepis to a second partition on my primary master hard drive. but it wont let me do it for some reason. it keeps saying I have to install it to a root partition. then it defaults back to the drive seletion screen. It doesnt even see the second partition to let me install to it.

Don't know, never had that problem. What did you name the partitions?
Usually when I install a dual boot I will install Win first and use all of the HD space - then let Linux shrink Win and make it's own partitions...

Go here and read all of this - http://www.brunolinux.com/ - then we can ask you some questions...
