Question SuSe Linux...how to...?
Hi...I've installed Suse Linux in a VMware Workstation v5 on a WinXP pro host machine. After all the trial and errors figuring out how to make it accept virtual drive to access the installation cd info. It installed fine. The thing is before I hit finished I did open up the Yast Control Panel, but I did not set-up anything yet and closed it. When it rebooted back up, I got this login window...I have no clue on what to do there, how come its asking me this and this is my fresh install and have never setup or configure any user or anything yet.

Can anyone have a clue as to how to go around with this and maybe go back to that Yast Control Panel.

I've installed this because I would like to experience how Linux works compare to Windows and would like to be familiar with this OS.

Please any help would be very much appreciated.

Linux, by default on all distro's will have the login prompt. Sometime during the setup you should of been prompted to add a user and select a password. If you don't remember that, then the username should be root and password: (think it is) password.

If worst comes to worst and you can't remember, in the boot line of the boot manager(lilo or grub) append single to the end (boot line = which line loads the kernel). This is something that you generally don't want to allow as anyone can go in and change anything at all.

Also please note you DO NOT want to run as root. Unlike windows this is a VERY BAD idea to do. A normal user is a must for a linux system.

It seems like it doesn't matter what I typed in the user and password box, its still a login failed.

In the beginning it really didn't prompt me any user control (to add or modify). Like I said seconds before the installation was completed, I had the option to see the Yast Control Panel, but I didn't know that I had to do something about that first before I went ahead and clicking the finish button to completely finished the installation.

And when it rebooted, that's where I am now...the Login Area.

Sorry for my ignorance but I am very new in Linus thingy. And, I'm just now wanting to learn and its environment.

Please help anyone? Thanks in advance.
