Unhappy Ubuntu screen problem
I have a new inspiron 6000 (chipset graphic card) and i wanted to install ubuntu on it. I tried first the live cd and it worked perfectly. I used rescue cd to make a patition (about 4gb). I'm keeping windows because i really don't know anything on linux. So i install it and stuff and when it reboot the screen went off. I tried to log in and it did (noises and stuff came up). I have tried alt Fx and it switches to terminal user interface. I erased everything and tried the live cd again and it didn't work either. I'm frustrated because i really want to use ubuntu. By the way, my hard drive had about tree other partitions that came with it, and the one i'm using for ubuntu is logical -ubuntu did it self and another for swap.

Hope anyone can help me
Thanks

It sounds to me like somethings screwed up in the X-windows settings cos you say that you can get it into a terminal, which means that linux is running, but there's something up with the screen settings when you try and run a gui.

Have a look at the following threads....
