Solved: Fedora Core 4 Resolution problems
I changed the resolution under root to 1024x768 on my laptop. Now I can't seem to get it viewable again to change it back. X seems to be fine up till you log on as root. I can log on as other users and the resolution is fine. I tried changing the xorg.conf file, but that configures all of X log on screen and all. This is almost like it's a particular user setting I screwed up under root.
I have another user name called Patch that I can log into fine. Anyone have a clue of where a config file might be under the user to adjust desktop settings?

It has been beaten in my head now that it should be a rule to never log into X as root. If you want to do something as root in X, then use the shell and issue the 'su' command followed by the root password. If it doesn't allow you to use su, then you must add the group 'wheel' to your user.

It is my understanding of X that the changes made in the xorg.conf file are system wide. Meaning, if you change the default resolution, it should be changed for all users. Therefore, if you add the resolution "1024x768" to xorg.conf, it should load as that resolution next time it is opened.

Fedora Core 4 Resolution problem
I have configured xorg.conf and still no luck. I have also, with help from a friend, found that I can alt+f2 to the run application command and then run system-config-display. I have changed my resolution and monitor type all around and still no luck.
When I change it to 640x480 on fedora load I see 5 fedora load menu's. 800x600 I see 3, and 1024x768 I see 1 but then 2 lines appear. They are the top menu bar. And I see it at the top and then about 1/4 from the bottom. Any Idea's?
I found this site, http://www.blacklion.org/main/linux_laptop.html
my next thing to try is to put his config for xorg.conf in and see what happens. It's the same laptop I'm trying to use.

Update: I tried those settings, and I could no longer start X. So it prompted me to go through the X configuration again. I can get back into X but still I have the same problem.
