http.conf help
is the http.conf.bak a file used to restore a messed up http.conf file?

If so how is this done

I assume you are referring to httpd.conf. If it looks like your other httpd.conf file, logic would probably tell you it is a backup. I usually make a backup of mine before I make any changes. I also put in the file what changes I made and I date it.

To restore it, you would just rename the file and take off the .bak.

The .bak could be the last iteration of the file. Restoring from it could give the last version. Of course if your edit session is what hosed it, then this is what you want.
