Yeah, the theme they use for default isn't very good looking. It was the first thing I changed. As far as 3 CD's, oh yeah, I have it installed on my laptop. I know what the first CD is for, as far as the other two, no clue. I think it just spinnes in there for a min and ejects and say's its done

You only need the first CD to run Mandriva. 2nd and 3rd CD have extra packages.

Fedora Core 4 is great, but you have to adjust the video after installation
The Fedora Core 4 is great, good built in security and easy to user gui. BUt it screws up getting the video card right for X allot and you have to run the follow fix after installation. I spent a few hours on this until some kind folks over at fedoraforum.org helped me.

Boot in Text Mode /Adjust Modes

At boot prompt choose to edit kernel arguments using 'a' key then add 3 to the end. Once you get into that "Bad Video Mode" you can try CTL-ALT-1 or CTL-ALT-2 to get back to console session 1 or 2. I think that's the right sequence - Not at my linux machine right now.

The correct command giben is 'X --configure' not 'x-configure'. system-config-display works also fine. i corrected my x-problems with this tool.

if you still dont get a correct display (with system-config-display) try to edit the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file and look out for the following section:

Section "Device"
Identifier "Videocard0"
Driver "nv"
VendorName "Videocard vendor"
BoardName "NVIDIA GeForce 2 GTS (generic)"
EndSection

and change it to the following:

Section "Device"
Identifier "Videocard0"
Driver "vesa"
VendorName "All"
BoardName "All"
EndSection

this will use a standard graphics driver. try to start system-config-display angain...
