Mandrake 10.1 not shutting down
Can anyone help me with Mandrake 10.1 - on shutting down it gets as far as 'Halting Systems' in the verbose shutdown and then just hangs.
Someone suggested ticking acpi in the bootloader page but this made no difference.

I sotra have this problem with my laptop too. I needed to disable acpi totaly in order to get my ethernet card to connect, but on shutdown it goes all the way to power down. I just press the power off button when that happends because it shutsdown cleanly. If you do that, does it ask to check the file system becuase it shutdown un-cleanly or does it boot normal?

you might want to try using shutdown -h now instead of the default. If i remember sometimes some systems have trouble with shutting down due to the acpi of the manufact. being buggy.

After switching off maually it boots normally next time.
Will try the shutdown -h but unfortunately the Mandrake PC is down at the moment (I've borrowed some of it's bits).

"shutdown -h now" worked for me like once. After that its the same. I would'nt be too concerned since it shuts down w/o a file check after next boot. Just hit the button if you need to or keep it on

Try:
# modprobe apm
# shutdown -h now

I have now installed Windows on this PC and the MB is one that doesn't shut itself down but puts up a screen tellling you it's OK to switch off now - maybe that explains it?
