I sotra have this problem with my laptop too. I needed to disable acpi totaly in order to get my ethernet card to connect, but on shutdown it goes all the way to power down. I just press the power off button when that happends because it shutsdown cleanly. If you do that, does it ask to check the file system becuase it shutdown un-cleanly or does it boot normal?
