Hi,

I have been asked by fellow employees to find out how to setup a Linux email server. The situation is that the company is to cheap to setup Lotus Notes accounts for each employee in the department. Thus, 16 people are forced to use one account. And that is not private nor secure. So, the question is.(NOTE: my being a big newbie, though I know more of Linux than anybody on the floor)

What components are needed to setup a simple mail server?
(standard desktop??)

What version of Linux works best? (mandrake?)
What other software (free ones!) components must be used to set this up?? (Qmail??)

The plan is if it is possible to setup the server on one of the spare systems.

I encourage all and any suggestions on how to do this the easiest.

Thanks for your help.

I think just about every single distro comes with sendmail, which you can set up to be your mail server.

I, personally, have never configured it, but I'm pretty sure there's some info over at http://www.linuxnewbie.org

You could also check out sendmail's website, http://www.sendmail.org I believe.
