Hi

I am running Redhat7.0, after I installed x-windows in my linuxbox, it has been running OK without any error with "startx" command. Then it crashed with no reason, even I shut down the machine properly every times, I was trying to uninstall and reinstall, but finally not succeed, please tell me the correct procedure how to fix it.

Here is the error message:
FontTransSocketUNIXConnect:Can't connect:errno =111
failed to set default font path 'unix/:7100'
Fatal server error
Could not open default font

also a Warning Message prompt that Directory does not exist "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TrueType"

Many thanks
Roddy

I did a lil searching on the web, and basically xfs died.

Give this a shot, and let me know if it works for ya:

Code:
rm -rf /tmp/.font-unix/
killall -9 xfs
/etc/rc.d/init.d/xfs start
-M

Dear Mike

Thank you for prompt reply, I was very appreciated.

However I can't locate /tmp/.font-unix/ by command-->
find -name '/tmp/.font-unix'. Please specify any alternative path. I'd like to remind you that I was using Redhat7.0 Actually I mentioned uninstalling XFree86 last times, it terminated in the middle and not clearly uninstall
Does it affect that issue ?

Cheers
Roddy

D'oh!

I guess I was kinda out of it when I read your first post.

Try installing X again, then uninstalling if you don't want it.

The files should just overwrite what's currently there, and you'll probably have to reconfigure again (XConfigurator in rh), but I'll bet that will fix your problem.
