hey! i just installed Linux Red Hat 7.0 today on a serperate hard drive, so its not a dual booting system. i ran a Workstation install and the first time i did it, it worked fine accept when i was in X, the mouse wouldnt work right(it was stuck up in the uppper right hand corner). so i reinstalled it, 2 times in fact, and when i try to get back into X, it says it cant connect to some server! and when i try using the KDE, it says it cant connect to the X server. its really making me angry, and i would like to fix it ASAP! any help would be appreciated! thanx! covax1

You could try this
Hi covax1 - I'm new to Linux too, but here's something to try.
Boot up in text mode. Login as superuser and type
Xconfigurator (case sensitive), go through the steps in there and select a correct resolution for your video display/monitor and continue. You should be able to work it out.
Depending on how new your hardware is and what video card you have, you might need to go to and download the drivers upgrade from Xfree86.org.
I had this problem, but managed to resolve it this way. One problem remained; my mouse cursor looked like a big 1" square blob with weird display. The solution for that was: In superuser mode navigate to /etc/X11/XF86Config and edit that file. Here's how I did it.

Ctrl+Alt+F2 (this gets you into command line mode)

cd /etc/X11
cp XF86Config XF86Config.bak (to make a backup is the way I did it)
vi XF86Config (vi being the editor)
scroll down (j) to the Section "Device" and insert (Shift+I for Insert) the line

Option "sw_cursor"

Esc
Shift :
wq (the command to save changes and exit vi)

shutdown -r now (means shutdown and reboot)

Hope this helps. Cheers.
