Back in 1998 I started with slackware 3.5.

Now I use Slackware 10.1 on my server and media center, and XP for my workstation.

I tried redhat, mandrake, suse, and all. But I found their intricacies related to package management and filesystem structure far too annoying.

Out of all the desktop distros, Ubuntu is definately the most user friendly and stable, but visually it is horrible. They really need to work on their desktop interface.

I first tried Mandrake 10 > didn't work. Then Suse 9.1 it was nice. Then Fedora 3, liked it a lot, then Ubuntu (which is now my distro of choice even though I don't have it setup on anything at the moment.) I tried a couple of others very breifly, but those were the main ones. I never had it installed very long, for some reason dual booting was a nightmare on my system.
