Why is a Unix box SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much !!!! ??

Supply and demand - The only people that need unix are those with scientific budgets. I used to work at SGI and the things those computers were used for would put any Winblows system to shame, but the price would make you do a triple-take.

For a cheap, but still high-performance version of Unix, check out any of the open source OSs that you can install on any x86 platform
