Anaconda hangs on gigabit card. Need one that works.
Working with CentOS, the install won't get past Anaconda with the Gigabit Nic installed.. I'm now using a 10/100 one.. The Nic is a StarTech cheapy, so I'd like to replace it with one that works well with linux.. Any recommendations?

Realtek 8139 (not 100% sure of the number), the cheapest in the market is the best. Think it cost me £5 or US$10. Haven't found a Linux, BSD or Solaris that doesn't like it yet?

I gave up the one that comes with the mobo because it is easier.

Did a search, I can only find RTL8169SB, RTL8110S-32/64, and RTL8169S-32/64 Realtech Gigabit NICs.

Are you sure that chipset supports gigabit?

I didn't know you want to use gigabit (1000 Mbps). The KT8 Neo board I have on another machine has gigabit Realtek 8110C/8110S and is easy with the distros but I only have about 20 in that machine.

I have gigabit onboard nic in the wife machine but she is sticking to XP at the moment.

I believe one needs a different grade of router and cables to run gigabit and so the system is running at the standard 100 Mbps ethernet speed. For that the cheapest and the most common Realtek 8169 (think this is the right number) works best because no system has a problem to recognise it.

Thank you so much for the input.. I'll get a RTL8169SB one and give it a try..

If it doesn't work, I guess I'll have to go with a Intel Pro one at the huge price difference..

The whole network is currently being switched to gigabit and 10gigabit routers/switches so the routers will be already in place..
