Okay, here's the scoop. I know nothing about Linux/Unix but I want to learn, so I downloaded some images from TurboLinux ftp site. The two images are from a cd/iso folder and of them is install and the other is companion (both .iso). Well, unfortunately Turbolinux does not have a good help site for finding out how to install the OS using these downloads instead of buying their CD so I don't know where to go from here. Should I just look at RedHat's installation guide for what I'm doing but download whatever else is needed from Turbo's web site? Any help would be great.

The .iso files are CD images. You use them to burn a CD with a program like EZ CD Creator or Nero. There are ways, if you don't have a CD burner, to "burn" the images to a directory on your harddrive and install from there. However, a bit of advice. If you're just starting out with Linux, d/l the iso's to Linux-Mandrake 8.0. It's without a doubt, the easiest distro to get up and running if you're a newbie.

better yet, you might consider going to http://www.linuxcentral.com and buy the already-burned .iso's for like 4 bucks. it's a hell of alot easier than downloading them (even with dsl it took about 4 hours for both discs) and burning them (took me about 2 months to finally get that right).

just a suggestion.

Godspeed.
