Is it all possible to run Linux on an ancient Dell Pentium 2 machine?

Hi,
I have no idea what spec a Dell Pentium 2 is, but if it helps I have run Puppy Linux on a 233mhz 64mb computer with no problems. It can be run as a live CD, or from a USB drive or installed in a variety of ways.
It is easist to use if you are using fat32, but will run alongside XP on ntfs.

Linux generally runs much better than Windows with limited resources. Many embedded devices use Linux as their operating system, like my TiVo.

Many thanks again guys. I will try to get puppy linux, and it sounds cute too. Ive heard of fat32 (is it in the operating system right?)

The P2 machine specs are: Win98, 128Mb ram, 7.85G hard drive (4 Gb free), 266mhz P2.

Given the above, will I have problems with Kubuntu?

FAT32 is a disk format that happens to be compatible with most versions of Windows and Linux. W98 is most likely running FAT32, though it's possible to run FAT16 if your partitions are smaller than 2gig.

Slackware will run on almost any configuration, Within reason of course.

For an old machine like that i'd recommend Damn Small Linux, Slackware or Puppy
