Cool Fedora C4 RealPlayer install HELP
Hello out there,
I'm a real newbie to Linux and I've had a few problems which I've got over. I hated being tied to those other unmentionable O/S's and I love Linux for it's stability ,quality
and the community spirit .

However I'm up against one that I can't solve no matter what I try.

I want to install Real Player ,not because I think its better than Helix or any others ,but because its the only one of two options that I get when I want to listen to a much loved radio stream.
The only options I get are Windows Media or Real Player.

I'v tried every yum ,yum -y install using RealPlayerGold10.bin ,
RealPlayer .rpm etc but always end up with errors.

I'm running Fedora C4 on a P3 at about 600 MHz and most Fedora apps
are running well . I seem to be able to use yum alright because I've
used it to install other stuff like Thunderbird etc.
I would like to make contact with somebody who has got the time and patience to walk a newbie through this dark valley.
Thanks
Gaspode

I'm assuming that you're using firefox... so just download MPlayer and Mplayer-plugin (for firefox)... that'll help you instead of using RealPlayer

if you need help with that... please post a response

RealPlayer Solved
Hi,
Thanks for your quick suggestion. In an indirect way your reply sort of resolved the problem.
I've been trying for days to install real player although I've already got MPlayer, problem was the radio site I wanted (and a lot of others)
only give two options i.e. Windows Media or RealPlayer.

But I thought , on the strength of your idea I would try all audio options again.
I went hunting for MPlayer/other audio apps. and found -Yes RealPlayer
tucked away in my Local Directory unbeknownst to me. From there it installed fine style and played away nice as pie.

So the problem turned out to be unfamiliarity with how Fedora does
things and where to look for results.I'm also not sure which series
of instructions did the trick either , which would be nice to know ,
nor how many times I have now actually installed RP and where else it might be lurking. but never mind apart from the fact that while it was playing it completely locked up the rest of the system I feel I have made great progress , and, once again ..
Thanks
Gaspode.
P.S.
The best site I found for help installing was...
<http://www.stanton-finley.net/fedora_core_4_installation_notes.html#Real>

This Is a very well laid out site for newbies and the hard of thinking :-)
Regards
G.
