Linux newbie questions
Have a couple of questions about Linux. I am sorta new to it and have been looking for which flavor to download. At present my only desire is to get familiar with the most common features and styles and learn its structure as I go. It is becoming more [revalent in my line of work and I am looking to keep ahead of the learning curve.
I checked Redhat but I'm not sure if they provide a free download anymore as all I see is a commercial download. I had redhat several years ago so thought I would start there.
I checked Mandriva but don't seem to see the 3 CD iso download? I think its not available for the 2006 version yet?? What files should I download? How does this product rank ong the options?
I considered SuSe as well but I am not sure it is as full featured as Mandriva.
Some direction as to flavor and downloads would be appreciated.

SuSE is a full blown Linux distro that uses the RedHat packet management (RPM) system. You can get Linux at
http://distrowatch.com
You might want to start with a single CD distro like Ubuntu, or Kubuntu.

suse also comes in a single "live" cd distro you can use to boot from if you want something to play with to get the feel of it. try them all and see what you like. I'm currently using SUSE and I like it so far. I've tried to get Ubuntu running but haven't had much luck - incompatible hardware I believe.
