ubuntu 5.10 doesn't like KVM switch
Hi
Newbie to linux, just built a pc to learn linux and have installed Ubuntu 5.10 and connected two pc's via a Belkin KVM switch.
Ubuntu loads up ok with the KVM switch, if I switch to my windows pc and then go back to linux and move the mouse the sceen goes biserk opening applications and the only way I can log off is to pull the power plug.
Anyone know of a work around this problem?
Thanks for any help

It is to do with the mouse being simulated in the KVM. Using a standard PS2 mouse helps.

I did have a problem of using a wireless keyboard and mouse set. The problem disappeared when I plugged a standard keyboard and PS2 mouse.

The KVM switch only use one set of monitor/keyboard/mouse. The PCs are always connected by cables to the KVM.

I have over 100 systems in the box and could possibly go round each one to make each OS to accept the simulated mouse from the KVM switch but it requied the least work to plug in the standard equipment (also the cheapest). I run 3 PCs with the KVM switch.

BB have you tried;

open up a terminal window.
at the prompt, type: sudo gedit /etc/modules
a new window ( the gedit program) opens up with the "modules" file shown (it's just a text-like file)
Add the line "psmouse proto=exps" to the file and then save the file.

I was given that info from the Ubuntu forums and it did not make any difference, I will double check that I have written it correctly.

Tapeup I have opened a terminal window in kubuntu and it keeps saying no command, is it a different command in kubuntu?
