You might want to run a memory testing utility like Memtest86. To eliminate that possibility, if for nothing else. Also, what output did you get from the hdparm command?

memory has settled to ~130,000 KB free idle. Still seems low to me. I will run the memtest you suggested when I have some time.

Here is output you requested

/dev/hda:
multcount = 16 (on)
IO_support = 1 (32-bit)
unmaskirq = 1 (on)
using_dma = 1 (on)
keepsettings = 0 (off)
readonly = 0 (off)
readahead = 256 (on)
geometry = 65535/16/63, sectors = 240121728, start = 0

The hdparm settings look fine. Run that Memtest overnight; it should complete a few passes.

Go here and get the pre-compiled binary ISO.
http://www.memtest.org/download/1.65...+-1.65.iso.zip
Just burn it to a CD.

did you check for updates on the software your running
something may have a memory leak
I think this because you say it starts after 3 days of uptime

I, too, beleive that I have a memory leak. However I am one those people that run my package manager once a day to update software (only takes a few minutes, what the hell right). So it must be a program with no update as of yet

Lynch, ran that test. No errors

I am wondering if I should just make another thread for this problem. It does seem to have its roots in my memory problem. If you guys think its unrelated I will make a new thread:

KDE crashes on startup. The window decorations are gone, which means I cant move any windows, cant even select the window under another window, it wont come to the top. Also the taskbar is gone. I have everything on my panel exept for the taskbar. The error that I recive when KDE Starts up is in the textfile below along with a backtrace.

Right now I am using gnome. I remember compairing the two and I never seen gnome go this fast over KDE, which to me says that the speed problem had something to do with KDE install itself. Even though I hate gnome with a passion, it is good to have my fast computer back
