If you do not have another OS running on your computer, then formatting the HD is a good option. If you have XP or similar on another partition, then boot up with your original Xp installation disk and run the recovery console. At the prompts typr 1. Fixboot , and answer yes to the questions. 2. type fix mbr and answer yes to the questions. When you reboot ( without the CD) everything sjhould be back to normal and yoy can then reformat the Linux partition only.

Boot with a Win98 boot/install floppy, or an XP CD, delete all nonDOS partitions and format.
The Win98 boot disk can be found free on the internet - you just need a blank floppy.

Or just boot up a LIveCD, use the terminal mode the program "cfdisk" to delete all the partitions. No need to reformat as you haven't got a system. The disk is ready for future use.
