Solved: Mandrake noob out of depth question
I'm running windows XP home, have a dedicated soundcard (audigy 2 ZS), the onboard sound AC97 is disabled in bios and I recently installed Mandrake 9.2 and have no sound going at all.

When I boot into Mandrake I suffer severe point'n'click depravation so I can't troubleshoot this issue at all.

When I booted Mandrake after disabling AC97 I get this error:

artsmessage
Sound Server Informational Message
Error while initializing the sound driver
device/dep/dsp can't be opened (no such file or directory)
The sound server will continue, using the null output device.

I placed an audio cd into the drive and opened Totem media player. It gave this error:

There is no audio output available.

This sorta situation is way beyond my capabilities.

Can anyone help me?
