Solved: Need to reconfigure video card-fatal 10 error 104
Hi. I needed to reinstall mand 9.2 on my windows pc and i configured the video incorrectly.

When i boot up into linux i get command prompt.

When i log in and type: startx

I get this error:

(WW) RADEON: no matching Device section for instance (Bus ID PCI:1:0:1) found
(EE) No Devices detected

Fatal server error:
no screens found

X10 Fatal 10 error 104 (Connection reset by peer) on X server ":0:0"

is there something I can type at command prompt that will overcome this error and start X or do I have to do another reinstall.

My graphics card is an ati radeon x700 and i chose radeon in the configuration.

Did the ati radeon x700 work in Mandrake 9.2 before? If not, Do you have access to a newer version of Mandriva?
The release date of the card(09/21/2004) and that version of Mandrake (/10/14/ 2003) dont seem to overlap.
You could log in as root from the command prompt and edit /etc/X11/XF86Config:
Code:
Section "Device"
    Identifier "device1"
    VendorName "ATI"
    BoardName "ATI Radeon (fglrx)"
    Driver "fglrx"
    Screen 0
    BusID "PCI:1:0:0"
    Option "DPMS"
    Option "FSAAMSPosY1" "0.000000"
    Option "StereoSyncEnable" "1"
If it looks like this, change the Driver "fglrx" line to Driver "radeon".

Hi Lynch,

Yep it did work, just that I had to re-install and I mucked about with the config of the graphic, changing the default.

To solve my current probs I ended up just re-installing 9.2 but this time I left the configuration of the graphics set to default and had no problems at all

I think the default is 'custom' and when I altered that to radeon which is an option in the menu, it caused all kinds of commotion!

So thanks for your post....
