Ubuntu Issues
I recently installed Ubuntu 5.1 as a dual boot with Windows 2000 on my IBM 6565-85u.

When I go to almost any administration utility (Users and Groups, Logon Screen Setup) I get a box asking for the password. I type in the root password and it returns an error saying that it is incorrect, although I am sure that I have typed in the right password, checked for caps lock, and reset the root password (sudo passwd root).

What's up with this?

Use your regular password instead of the root password and see what happens.

When I do that, it shows up on the bottom as starting users and groups...

It then goes away and does nothing. I no longer get the password box,

Supposedly, I found that you should be able to run visudo and add the line

%admin ALL=(ALL) ALL

and it will work.

Problem is, I try to run it and it says permission denied

i ran it as sudo visudo, and it asked me for a password.

I gave it mine, then it never launched. Now it doesn't ask for a password any more.

I reinstalled it without the expert mode. I have solved the original problem, but now have two different ones:

>I have a Canon S9000 and a Konica Minolta Papepro 1350W. The Canon installs fine, but the Konica installs, seems to print, but doesn't. It it connected through Parallel.

>I downloaded RealPlayer for Linux to play my ECC (I hope I didn't butcher that format name) files, I typed "chmod a+x filename.bin" in the terminal to make it executable (it's a binary file). This seems to work, but when I try to run it with "./filename.bin" it fails.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
J.S.
