Sound problems
I have ubuntu installed on my computer, I really like it but it wont detect my sound-card.

I have a Creative Vibra16 soundblaster soundcard, it works in puppy linux and PCLinuxOS but not in ubuntu :'(

Also i know that ubuntu doesnt read wma files, is there a codec or something i can download through Synaptic to let me play them when i get my soundcard working???

Any help would be greatly appreaciated.

to play wma, you need to get the w32codec package.

as for your sound card, i dont use that model.

but do take a look at the following 2 links

ok, i have my hard drive at a friends place, which is where I am now so i cant configure the sound card yet, but I downloaded the w32codec pack from http://linux.softpedia.com/get/Multi...05-10127.shtml
Now what do I do, is there any directory in particular that I am supposed to extract it too...?

check out this guide, it's very helpful for ubuntu users

just look for the section named " How to install Multimedia Codecs".

I personally use Suse, so I'm not too sure abt the details of using synaptics, repos in ubuntu.

Good luck.
