typically just blow off the partitions, format and install... begs the questions tho, where's the copy of xp coming from? And is the system too old to run XP?

No you don't need to format the hard drive with the 98 boot disk. YOu just need to fdisk the master boot record. While you are in there you might as well remove the non-dos partitions as well.

fdisk /mbr

You can then boot with your XP disc and re-partition and format from there.

Just boot with the XP disk...

...and choose to...

-Delete all partitions

-Create a new partition.

-Format the partition as NTFS.

I am pretty sure you are still going to have to Fdisk the master boot record because Linux was on their previously.

Not really.

Delete ALL partitions from the install disk will suffice.

Windows bootloader will overwrite GRUB or LiLO anyways.
