Ubuntu - GUI fail
I'm coming here first because you experts are the fastest! I have just swapped my webserver hard drive into a newer computer (1ghz vs 800mhz!) with a smaller neater case.

Ubuntu nearly loads but falls over when trying to load the GUI, is there something that I can type at the prompt to force the GNOME to start? Or a 'repair' install like XP?

Thanks

It doesn't automatically install with a GUI. I added one and then changed the (graphics) hardware which threw the GUI into a state of confusion!

Ubunutu forums helped me out - the solution is to do reconfigure the GUI using a command I can't remember at the moment! All is well, server running fine with a brand spankin' new 1000mhz CPU!

PS installing a GUI on Ubunutu Server 6.06 is done with:

sudo apt-get ubuntu-desktop

My new found love is linux...
