First timer needs help!!
Hi,
I have heard so much about LINUX that i want to install it.

Problem is i REALLY don't have a clue about what i'm doing, my experience of computers is less than a novice.

So is there a site that gives a totally step-by-step procedure to setting up linux?

I have already downloaded Kubuntu (dapper something or other) and put it on disk, and thats as far as i've got.

Your help IS very much appreciated in this matter.

Thanks in advance.

In my opinion, getting into Linux for someone like you based on what you have described with your experience would not be a good solution. But on the other hand, if you dive into Linux you will probably learn it easier as you will not be as confused if you were switching from Windows to Linux. My only advice is to read a lot about the distro of Linux that you want to try and take the following test to determine which Linux distro would fit you best.

As to the CD that you already have with Linux on it you can boot your Windows machine with it to try Linux without changing anything to the current OS. However, you need to make sure that the CD that you created is an ISO image file.

I suggest reading the documentation on the kubuntu site. The Deskop Guide looked good to me, although usually documentation starts with an Installation section! ... not necessary for a live CD, I guess.

You can demo linux distributions with live CDs. They don't install the OS on your computer. If you like them, you can install them on the hard drive. It is possible to setup a dual boot (so you can have 2 operating systems on your computer ... although you can only run one at a time). I would recommend dedicating the machine to just linux, until you are more comfortable with linux.
