It doesn't look like anyone else is replying, so I'll take a shot at it.

You don't say what distribution of Linux you're working on, but looking at your returns from RPM, I'm guessing Red Hat Enterprise 4.x. One of the advanced more distributions targeted at the corporate environment.

A quick google search of the package you're attempting to install makes it look as though it was intended for PLD Linux, a Polish Distribution targeted towards advanced users.

RC-Scripts is a set of lists of instructions for the internal workings of the system. It controls thing such as the order things are brought up during boot, how and when to start the X desktop, etc.

It is unlikely that an RC-Scripts package from one distribution is going to work in another. Each of the distributions tend to have there own ideas on how things should be set up. A blessing and a curse.

If you need to update rc-scripts, you first need make certain you get one for your distribution and version.

I'm actually currently using Suse, so I'm not up on RHEL. You'll need to check their site for the current/latest version.

I work with Scilliant.com and I ecountered the same problem during the installation of the postfix mail server. What I recommand is reslove this dependency with yum program if you are running redhat or fedora. If you are using gentoo then it should be no problem as the system would emerge the prober packages.

I hope this helps

I agree. I think he's using RHEL 4, but he doesn't say.

Dos RHEL use yum as well. I've used regular Red Hat and Fedora, but never the Enterprise version.
