Unhappy Changing controller number???
Our server went down and I ordered a new hard drive. I needed to retreive the data on the old hard drive and it was determined that the controller card on the drive was bad. I replaced the card with another card from a identical drive we had laying around. The drive boots to super user mode. The problem is that the drive is looking for:

/dev/dsk/c1t1d0s0

but the new controller card id's at

c2t1d0s0

How can I change this number? I ultimately would like to get this drive back up to do a dd copy.

This system is on Solaris 8.

Thanks in advance.

What model SUN is this?

c1t1d0s0 is the first disk of the first bus in the system.
c2t1d0s0 is the first disk of the second bus in the system.

This is typical if this is a Netra, 220/420. The SCSI ID/LUN is usually determined by the slot on the 220/420, Netras simply determine this by SCSI ID jumper and bus position.

Did you by any chance plug it into the wrong controller?

If you're simply looking to retrieve data from the drive, you can boot the system in single user, mount / from c2t1d0s0 (and any other file systems) / then CPIO off to another disk.
