I didn't see one, but I was thinking a thread (possibly a sticky in the future) that would help people see the software you would use in Linux compared to what you use in Windows would be helpful.

Instant Messenging
Gaim would be your MSN/Y!/AIM/ICQ Messenger replacement, and in fact has a windows version as well.

Office Suites
Open Office would be your MS Office replacement...and can also be run in Windows.

If people could post what they use, I'll try to keep this up to date.

Kopete is a good KDE IM client.

Thunderbird is a replacement for Outlook Express

Audacity is a great audio-editing program, similar to soundforge or the like

K3B or Gnomebaker are both excellent for burning CD's

These are all I can think of off of the top of my head, but I can definitely contribute more when I get back to my computer!
