Lightbulb looking for a linux version to fit these needs
To make a long story short, i'm a student, fedora 2 came with out books, but its not entirely compatible. furthermore, not necessary for class. i'm looking for a linux version that i can download to cd for installation or even a live cd, that will work well with these specifications:

microsoft ac adapter/microsoft acpi-compliant
acpi uniprocessor pc
mobile intel 945gm express chipset familymat****a dvd ram uj-841s
intel 82801gbm/ghm ich family serial ata storage controller 27c4; root port 27d0,2,+4; sm
texas instruments ohci compliant ieee 1394 host controller
standard 101/102 keyboard
ps/2 mouse
toshiba software modem
default monitor/plug n play monitor
generic tv

intel pro/100

have you tried ubuntu or knoppix yet? they can both be run off of live cds to see if you would like that

thanks. knoppix is experimental i think? i'm not sure I am knowledgable enough of Linux to run an experimental version. I did download morphix and freeduc, both livecd...i also have a copy of wolvix.

You can actually make a bootable CD/USB FDD and follow the steps here to do so. http://rz-obrian.rz.uni-karlsruhe.de/knoppix-usb/. You don't even have to boot from the CD/USB FDD, you can run this over top of windows. Just open the dos file on the disk/drive. It will load up in dos and run over top of windows. I don't think you can minimize it though.Try this, if you like it, I would reccomend Suse 10.2 or Ubuntu.
