Creating spanned archives
Hi
I would like to create spanned zip archives.
Say if I want to divide a 4 GB file and give it to someone on cds. (He
should be able to open it and assemble it on windows, that's why I
asked spanning.)
Any suggestions will be welcome
Thanks

I got the feeling this can be done in dd but I never tried it myself.

In dd you write parts of the file at whatever length you wish and join them together by the copy command in Windows with "+" between the parts.

You may find this thread helpful.

I have never broken up a file this way but have joined up several CD iso to form a DVD iso, all in accordance with the download site instructions.

I would assume you have Zip, Unzip installed on your Linux machine. If so, you probably have zipsplit installed as well.
