labeling partitions using cfdisk
I went to install Slackware 8.0, and everything was going good. Just one problem: I don't know how to lable partitions. Example, I created my swap first, that went well. Then, I created a /boot partition. I don't know how to make it an actual /boot partition, though. I just selected the "make bootable" option, and supposedly that makes it bootable. How can I select mount points using cfdisk? I'd like to make a / partition, but I am not sure how to go about that, being that I don't know how to set the mount poings. Thanks in advance!!!

Well, you say you've never used cfdisk. something like this:

disk | partition type | mount point |
-----------------------------------------
hdb1 linux ext2 /boot
hdb5 linux ext2 /
hdb6 linux ext2 <swapfile>

This is what my partitions look like now.

Here's what they SHOULD LOOK LIKE for the Slackware installation:

disk | partition type | mount point |
-----------------------------------------
hdb1 linux ext2 /boot
hdb5 linux ext2 /
hdb6 linux ext2 <swapfile>
#Slackware disk partitions:
hdb7 linux ext2 /boot
hdb8 linux ext2 <swapfile>
hdb9 linux ext2 /

NOTE: The "#" is a comment, ignore it.

This is what they look like now:

disk | partition type | mount point |
-----------------------------------------
hdb1 linux ext2 /boot
hdb5 linux ext2 /
hdb6 linux ext2 <swapfile>
#Slackware disk partitions:
hdb7 linux ext2
hdb8 linux ext2
hdb9 linux ext2

As you can see, there are no mount points for the Slackware partitions. What I want to do is to <i>make</i> mount points for them. I don't suppose you know how to do this, being that you haven't used cfdisk before. Maybe you should try slackware out sometime!
Thanks!

You should. I installed it last night. I think I messed up, though, because I think I didn't create a swap partition

Slackware is great, from what I can tell so far. I like it alot, even if I use a command line right now. I have to re-configure X, or something, and my mouse doesn't work. Maybe I'll start a new thread, and wait three days!! NO ONE POSTS IN THE LINUX FORUM ANYMORE (as you said!)!!!!!

Why not just get it for 5 bucks off ebay?

Hmm, you're from Ohio. Maybe you should get it from the guy in Knoxville; it's closer. (you'll know who he is if you go to ebay.)

You can always try to download it from Holland! TechTV says it's the best way to go, with Mandrake, at least.
