Unhappy Opening downloaded prog.
I am using Win98se--96mb ram--8 gh drive.

I have downloaded Corel Linex from TuCows. I have a file:

cdlxxx-os\/1.2tgz-control-free download.cat.iso

On some site it says to burn a CD and it will open from CD. Did that, and error says "No viewers registered for this type of file. Would you like to use default?" I get garbage... Tried to extract with WinZip and basically got the same.????

How can I open this program?

Thanks

You can't read the file in Windows I don't think.

If you boot to cdrom it should start the install of linux.

You may have set up your burning software wrong when you burned the .iso file to a cd. There are certain settings you have to do when copying an iso file to a cd.

I can't think of the way to do it since I dont have the software in front of me. when i go home i will look it up and let you know.

This is for ex cd creator but should be pretty much same for any other software

Burning an iso image with EZ cd creator 4 under win9x is a very
straightforward process.

From the File drop down menu choose 'Create CD from image...'
Then select .iso file image type [this is important b/c it defaults to
.cif]
Choose your image and hit ok
this opens the CD creation setup GUI, from there ensure that all the
information for your CD-R is correct
in the create options portion choose
- Create CD
under write method choose
- Track at once
- close cd

Sorry?
Don't be too hard on yourself. I know you have a couple other things on your mind. I read about a 2 floppy Linux distro a couple years ago. Can that be done with Corel?
Thanks again.

I have heard about something like that.

Like running a webserver from 1 floppy. It is possible to install linux using only 3mb or so. You just have to know what to install and what not to install.

I have never tried it myself but I have heard you can.

All linux distros are the same some just have different options.

Like ice cream you can get 1000's of flavors but they all have the same base.
