What distro are you using? In *ubuntu I think the following will work from a terminal: sudo apt-get install dhcp3-client

I am trying to install Gentoo Linux. Everything seems to be working properly except the network connection. I have already solved my previous question, what I need to know is this...

My network connection works properly when I am in the Livecd environment. However when I boot from the hard drive, my net connection no longer works. I canot ping anything except for the local machine. I have tried to set a static IP to the box, and still canot access the local network or the web. IE, I cannot ping crap except for the local machine. It has stumped me

Here is what I have done so far..

-dhcpcd has been emerged and seems to be working properly.

-net-setup eth0 was ran in livecd environment and configured for use with DHCP.

-/etc/conf.d/net.conf has been configured for DHCP as well.

-Proper drivers for the card have been made available to the kernel through network configuration in "make menuconfig" where I configured my kernel.

Like I said this has me stumped!

The only possible solution I can think of is that it hasn't been configured for use with a proxy. And I know for a fact I am behind one.

Can anyone else reassure me of that, or could there be another possible solution?

Really appreciate the help guys, you have no idea!
