Question WinLinux\Win98 bootup problem
I have win98 and winlinux installed on my computer. (AMD 900mhz, 512meg memory, 30gig ibm hard drive). It has worked fine for about a year and then I ran disk defrag and my problems began. When I tried to restart after defrag it went thru the detecting of the hard drive and info screen and then came to the
stage 1-stage2 part of startup(Linux loader i think) and it goes to stage1 and just sits there with the blinking cursor. I tried to start with the windows start disk and it will do nothing. Any way to bypass this linux startup? I've tried to hold down F8 at startup but it won't go into safe mode. Still goes to stage1 and stops.
Any suggestion would be very much appreciated.

Did you make a boot disk when you installed linux????
If so use it and readd lilo.
It sounds like you lost the boot loader thingy. Don't remember real name.

I tried to read lilo with a start up disk but winlinux doesn't use lilo.
The problem is going from stage 1 to stage2 in the dual boot program routine. This is only used in the winlinux ditribution of linux I think. I need to know if anyone knows a way to bypass this
dual boot loader and get straight to windows. If I could get there I could simply reinstall winlinux and I think that would fix the problem. I tried to boot from a win98 boot disk also and the computer will not boot from there. It will get me into dos but I still
cannot boot windows. Perhaps someone could tell me where the master boot record in windows is stored and I could get to it from
dos or use an editor and try to fix the problem in the boot loader.
Still trying but getting very aggrivated. I have too much stored on the hard drive to give up and reformat and reinstall. Thanks for the help but could use some more suggestions.

I got into dos and used fdisk/mbr from a startup disk for the win98, and the computer rewrote the boot sector files. Everything started fine then in win98 and I was able to reinstall
winlinux and it works fine.
